About the site
Parque das Tribos was founded in the early 2010s in the Tarumã-Açu region of western Manaus and is home to around 5,000 indigenous residents from more than 35 distinct Amazonian ethnic groups, making it the largest urban indigenous community of its kind. The community sits alongside Cidade das Luzes and Cristo Rei. Key vulnerabilities include rural-to-urban migration pressures, intercultural adaptation, precarious sanitation, food insecurity, urban heat island effects, and exposure to the historic Amazon droughts of recent years.
