About the site

Ede is a smaller Dutch municipality (~120,000 residents) but among the largest by surface area. Its proximity to agricultural land creates particular challenges for air quality and public health. Climate change brings combined pressures from heat, drought, and heavy rainfall. The municipality's challenges are twofold: green urban development to manage urban heat island effects and water absorption in built-up areas, alongside a rural transition toward sustainable agriculture and energy. Ede already monitors heat-stress vulnerability per neighbourhood.
